BUILDING ENVELOPE BASICS - Qualifies for 1 HSW PDH

When: October 9, 2020 12:00-1:00cdt

About this Course: Proper design of the building envelope is critical to basic building performance. This program will investigate the basic building components most commonly used in commercial/multi-family roof and wall assemblies. This will include material such as EPDM, TPO, Brick, and Metal Wall Panels. Going beyond basic components the presentation will include attachment techniques and the impact of different insulating methods.

Prerequisite Knowledge: None

Learning Objective 1: Develop understanding of different Roof Types - EPDM, TPO, Shingles, PVC, etc.

Learning Objective 2: Develop Understanding of Wall Cladding Types - Vinyl, Fiber Cement, Brick, etc.

Learning Objective 3: Analyze how different accessories and assemblies work together in roofing and wall systems. Examples include; Trim, Coping, Fascia, etc.

Learning Objective 4: Compare assembly options to address insulation and moisture intrusion.

ROOF SYSTEM SELECTION FOR A PROJECT - Qualifies for 1 HSW PDH

About this Course: This course is intended for small group or one on one discussions to discuss key elements in the design of roof systems for commercial and/or multi-family structures. The key element is for the program to involve the key decision maker(s) in the design of an actual project. To determine optimal systems to balance cost and optimized building envelope performance.  This program will directly relate to the design of a building envelope to assist design professionals.

Prerequisite: This presentation requires an actual project to be discussed to apply different concepts to an actual project in design.

Learning Objective 1: Compare two to three building envelope membranes chosen by the attendees for a given project.

Learning Objective 2: Analyze merits of exterior rigid insulation vs. batt insulation to meet code required energy guidelines.

Learning Objective 3: Analyze two or more roof systems to determine the likely financial impact of system options.

Learning Objective 4: Analyze multiple transition details to optimize building performance and minimize opportunities for moisture intrusion.
